Choose An Image

  • Not all images lend themselves to the Van Dyke Brown Print Process.

  • The strongest images have a great deal of contrast and distinctive lines.

  • Image 1: digital image of an orchid plant - notice the dramatic differences between light and dark

  • Image 2: the negative created in Photoshop (see next page for details)

  • Image 3: the Van Dyke Brown Print. Notice how the contrast is softened.

Things to Avoid

  • Images with lots of fine detail tend to look muddled when printed with the Van Dyke Brown process.

  • Image 1: the digital image

  • Image 2: the negative created in Photoshop

  • Image 3: the Van Dyke Brown print. Notice the overall lack of contrast.
